Beginner’s Guide to Collecting | Funko & Figures

How to Start Your Collectibles Journey Without Breaking the Bank

New to collecting? Don’t worry — you don’t need a massive budget to get started. Here’s how to build a collection that excites you without overspending.

1. Pick a Theme

Focus on a single series or category (anime, Marvel, horror) to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

2. Start Small with Funko Pops

Funko Pops are affordable (often under $20) and have a huge variety of characters. Great for testing what you love.

3. Learn the Lingo

  • Vaulted = No longer produced (more valuable).

  • Exclusive = Sold at a specific retailer, often harder to find.

  • Chase = Limited version of a Pop, usually with a different look.

4. Protect and Display

Affordable Pop protectors keep boxes mint. Floating shelves or Detolf cases let you show off your finds.

5. Upgrade Slowly

Once you’re comfortable, branch out into action figures and statues. These are pricier, but they make great centerpiece items.

Collector’s Tip

Your first collectible should mean something to you — not just be about value. Emotional attachment makes collecting way more fun.
